About the Society The "Ding" Darling Wildlife Society was formed in 1982 to provide support and services to the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Florida. It became one of the first refuge "friends" groups to organize as an independent nonprofit association in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
